چکیده
The influence of cutaneous and joint receptors on the quadriceps femoris torque-velocity relationship was assessed with the Kin-Com (Chattecx, Inc., Hixson, TN) isokinetic dynamometer. Twenty-four females (age = 21 ± 1.4 years, ht = 163 + 6.0 cm, wt = 60 ± 7.6 kg) were divided into two groups and tested with the force pad placed either proximally or distally on the leg. Three concentric and eccentric contractions were performed at 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 175 and 200's-1 on 2 separate days with an anesthetic applied to the skin under the force pad on 1 of the 2 days. An ANOVA was performed on peak torque with trend analyses performed on velocity factors. The results indicate the cutaneous and knee joint receptors do not affect the quadriceps femoris concentric or eccentric torque-velocity relationships, F(7,154) — 1.61. Furthermore, the results revealed significant linear, F(1,154) 161.14, and quadratic trends, F(1,154) = 25.85, for concentric and eccentric peak torque, respectively. Thus, the concentric torque-velocity relationship is best described by a linear relationship rather than the classic curvilinear relationship. Conversely, the eccentric relationship is best described by the classic curvilinear relationship. These results suggest that adequate assessment of muscular torque production requires testing at multiple velocities. Article:

A trend analysis of the in vivo quadriceps femoris angle-specific torque-velocity relationship.
To adequately assess isokinetic human muscle performance, it is important for clinicians to understand how the muscle functions across a range of velocities. Thus, the purpose of this study was to re-examine the in vivo quadriceps torque-velocity relationship using trend analysis. Twelve uninjured university-age females performed three concentric and eccentric contractions at velocities of 0, 2...
متن کاملThe Effects of Knee Angle on Quadriceps Femoris Activation and Knee Extensor Torque
It has previously been demonstrated that the maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) torque for the quadriceps femoris (QF) muscle occurs within the mid-range (i.e., 45 – 90 deg flexion) of knee range of motion (Ng, et al, 1994; Suter and Herzog, 1997; Welsch et al, 1998). Decreases in voluntary torque generation at the extremes of the functional joint range of motion (0 – 90 deg flexion) may be at...
متن کاملEffect of cold treatment on the concentric and eccentric torque-velocity relationship of the quadriceps femoris By: Kerriann Catlaw
This study examined the effect of cold treatment on the force-velocity relationship of the quadriceps muscle of 16 athletes. Each subject performed three maximal concentric and eccentric quadriceps contractions on the Kin-Corn at 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 175 and 2000s-1. On one of two testing sessions, subjects received a 20 min ice application prior to testing, and for the remaining session,...
متن کاملIdentification of Quadriceps-Shank Dynamics Using Randomized Interpulse Interval Stimulation
Absbuct-Model structures for artificially stimulated paralyzed muscle-limb system dynamics were developed and experimentally evaluated in paraplegic patients. The examined system consisted of the quadriceps, electrically stimulated using surface electrodes, and a freely swinging shank. The interpulse interval of the stimulation sequence was randomized to obtain persistent system excitation. The...
متن کاملQuadriceps weakness in a family with nemaline myopathy: influence of knee angle.
Nemaline myopathy is a congenital neuromuscular disorder, which primarily affects the thin filaments. Clinically the most important feature is muscle weakness; however, this weakness is poorly understood. The present investigation aimed to determine the torque angle relationship of the knee extensor muscles during in vivo muscle contractions in a family with a novel phenotype of nemaline myopat...
